Valerian Pereira of Mangalore, an insuline dependant diabetic since 5 years, on the suggestion of @enold read my article on Reversing Diabetes and Obesity and a month ago, came to see me for guidance on LCHF diet.

He has been through a bypass surgery 10 years ago. FBS were in the range of 380 to 400 mg/dl and PPBS were in the range of 480 to 500 mg/dl. He also had his legs swollen.

He was on insuline Human Mistard 25-0-25, Glycomet GP2: 1-0-1, and some heart medications called Selecart 50mg and Ecosprin 0-0-1.

When he came to see me, he was already on LCHF diet since 4 days. He shifted his all meals into LCHF diet at once and all the while, has also been taking insuline without checking his BS levels. I was in fact worried about him going into hypoglycemia and warned him. Soon I realized that he had lost all hopes of getting any relief from Allopathic Medical Practitioners, hence he took the risk of urgent decision to go on LCHF diet.

He is a 59 year old rickshaw driver, earning around Rs. 300/ a day. Studied up to 10th standard. Living with his wife (not earning) and has no children. For my safety, I had to explain him about my "disclaimer" in the article so that he understood the consequences of following LCHF diet without proper knowledge or guidance. I shared with him my experience as well as some others in dlife.in. Later on he used to call me regularly for more info on LCHF.

Today he came again to see me and shared his progress as below.

He continued with LCHF diet and was in touch with his regular medical practitioner. To his Doctor, he did not mention words like LCHF and/or Fat in particular. He only said he ate traditional food like coconut in nonveg/veg curries, eggs, meat, fish, youghurt and plenty of vegetables cooked in coconut oil and very little rice. According to Valerian, his Doctor was very happy with everything (including improved BS levels) but coconut and coconut oil and advised its minimal use because it would make him (Valerian) gain more fat.

Doctor also reduced his medications to:
    Human Mustard: 18-0-12
    Glycomet GP2: 1-0-1
    Ecosprine: 0-0-1
    Selecart 50mg: 1-0-0
    Lutrofix SR60: 1-0-0
He is feeling better than before.
He lost 2 kg weight (too little for a month on LCHF ?)

    After reduced medications:
FBS: around 130 and PPBS: around 200

Earlier he was reluctant to use ACV due to financial constraints, but today took 2 bottles of ACV (HRT one month) from me.
Uses homemade coconut oil and coconut milk, walnuts, almonds, peanuts, garlic empty stomach, turmeric etc.

I have asked his permission to put his photo here for the benefit of new members. I will update his progress here regularly.

That's a loss that I prefer. No more, no less.
His mid section bulge has to go. Numbers will improve much more.

    Great Initiative! @Zuze Pernal.

As evidenced in Gary Taubes, "Why we get fat?" Diabetes is very much a common-man's disease due to easy and cheap availability of rice and sugar.
Even more so now with NIL or minimal exemption in GST.

They need as much an helping hand as possible!

As his weight reduces, he can be told to taper dose by 50% rule and watch numbers.
Once all glimi is gone, tweak insulin down as needed.

    @Zuze Pernal -- What's his weight?
Can you slowly train him on skipping a meal? Obviosuly he will need to take care of not landing with HYPO. Maybe skip morning dose of Glimi if skipping B/F and see how numbers behave. But, before that he wiill have to switch away from combination drug and switch to separate MF+GLIMI

I believe that let him take the tabs
He had to get off insulin first
This will be the biggest win for him and also easy to titrate downwards and avoid hypo
